Road trip in California – Part 4 // Los Angeles

So here we are! The fourth part of my “California Road Trip”-guide, which is going the be about the City of Angeles, Los Angeles. Most people I know either hate or love the city and I must admit that I am somewhere in between. However, I think it comes down to the fact that it’s hard to fall in love with such a big city that you only spend 36 hours in. So of all the guides that I have made about my california road trip, this is probably the least adequate.

Where to stay in Los Angeles?
There are places in LA where you as a tourist shouldn’t go. Personally I was told that Downtown LA is one of them (however, some parts should be safe!) and as a naive little dane, I chose to follow that advice. We chose to stay in Santa Monica which is a nice and chill part of town. Venice, Malibu, Marina del Rey and Beverly Hills are also recommendable areas! In general it is expensive to live in LA, but if you read my first guide about how to plan a road trip for California, you can find a tip to a good app that gives you the best hotel deals in most American cities.

What should I see in Los Angeles?
LA offers thousands of fun attractions. Some of what I enjoyed the most was to rent a bike at Venice beach and bike along the seafront.  After the bike trip you can go to the famous, Venice Canals, which is an exclusive canal area best known from the TV show, Californication. Another must do in LA is Universal Studio which in my opinion is the Disney World for adults! To me Universal studios was more than enough but if you really like amusement parks then I suggest you to visit both (have in mind that it is quite expensive). Another fun thing to do is to drive around Beverly hills and look at all the massive mansions! There are guided tours to see all the celebrity villas, but to me it doesn’t matter who live in these houses - as long as they are pretty to look at ;)

Are you planning to try EVERYTHING of what LA has to offer then you should buy a GO Card to Los Angeles. It gives you access to +30 attractions and tourist sights. It cost 72 dollars per person which is nothing compared to how much your otherwise would spend per attraction.

Where should I eat in LA?
There are thousands of good food places and since the city is so big, it doesn’t really makes sense to drive to the other parts of town to go to 1 place. However, are you near Santa Monica, the australian breakfast/lunch join, Bondi Harvest, is worth a visit. Their Acai Bowl is to die for and so if their Avocado toast. To get inspiration to other good food places you should take a look at Celias guide. She lives in LA and knows about all the best food spots!

What shouldn’t I waste my money on in LA?
Personally I think there are too many tourist traps in LA. Eg. the whole area with The Walk of Fame - do you want to see the real LA stay away from these places and find the places where all the locals go. Not only will it save you money but also save you time. The area is packed!!

How expensive is LA?
Everything that is about tourists is super expensive! E.g. Universal studies easily ends up costing you 300 dollars per person including food, drinks and tickets. Restaurants and bars more or less cost the same as the rest of California (which is pretty is pretty expensive)

DANISH

Heriblandt området omkring Walk of Fame.

Du kan læse mine tre forrige indlæg om Californien HER og HER og HER.
